I recently had the pleasure of photographing River, a lovely Staffy X, and let me tell you, she is a character! River's mum, Ali, provided some wonderful stories that perfectly depict River's quirky nature and the relationship that they have. She also requested that I capture River's unique look with her cute buck teeth showing even when she has her mouth closed.
First and foremost, River is a fiend for feet! If you're ever around her, be prepared for some funny moments. She enjoys standing over people's feet and waits for them to wiggle their toes so she can get a good tummy scratch. It's an awesome way to make everyone laugh!
River is a determined girl who knows what she wants. If Ali is not around, River has been known to refuse walks, forcing her father to carry her home when he tries to take her out alone. There's even a story of a solo walk in which Ali had to carry River home for two kilometres before she decided she'd had enough. But, hey, with her big smile, who can blame her for wanting to be pampered?
Ali's search to adopt River is equally lovely. Growing up without pets, she sent a proposal to her parents at 22 to show her commitment to a dog. After some negotiating (including sleeping arrangements), she found River at Monika's Doggie Rescue. Despite having a patchy coat due to mange and a few peculiarities, River's joyful demeanour and big grin grabbed Ali's heart. Ali knew she had discovered her fluffy partner when River launched herself towards them when they met.
And, guess what? Just a week later, River took her proper spot in the centre of Ali's bed—exactly where she belonged!
Throughout our session, River's personality shined. It was a lot of fun to photograph her in the environment, from her funny smiles to her curious looks. Whether she was waiting for a tummy scratch or being her gorgeous, quirky self, River made the session a total delight.
