If you’re a pet photographer and your business feels stuck in that frustrating cycle of busy, quiet, busy again, you’re not alone.
I remember what that felt like so clearly. There was a time when I was building my photography business while working full time in the Australian public service as a CPA and business analyst. At one point, I photographed 140 sessions in a year while still employed full time.
From the outside, it probably looked like things were working. But behind the scenes, I was constantly trying to keep up.
That’s exactly why I care so much about photography business coaching. Not because photographers need more pressure. But because most don’t need to work harder. They need clearer strategy and the right support.
Hi, I’m Ina, I’m a pet photographer based in Canberra and I offer mentoring and coaching for photographers who want to build a sustainable business without burning out.
If you’ve been piecing things together from Instagram tips, free trainings, and random advice, this is for you. Because more information isn’t always the answer. Sometimes it’s about having the right guidance to actually move forward.
Here’s the thing. Most photographers don’t get stuck because they aren’t good enough. They get stuck because they’re trying to grow a business without a clear structure.
You might be posting consistently for a few weeks. Maybe you run a promotion or try to do a discount offer. A few enquiries come in and it feels like it’s working. Then it goes quiet again. So you try something new. And the cycle repeats.
I see this all the time in photography business coaching. Talented photographers stuck in reactive marketing. Showing up when things feel slow, then disappearing when life gets busy.
I’ve been there too. Before I niched into pet photography, I was making less than $5,000 a year photographing anything and everything. Families, newborns, events, weddings. It wasn’t until I focused entirely on pet photography that things started to shift. Not overnight. But it gave me direction.
And that’s often the first thing photography business coaching helps with. Clarity.
A lot of people think coaching is just about motivation. It’s actually much more practical than that. When I’m working with photographers, we’re looking at the full picture. Not just what you’re doing, but what’s actually working and what isn’t. Sometimes the gap is in your messaging. Other times it’s your pricing, your offer, or how your marketing and sales process are set up.
A good example of this is how you handle enquiries. I don’t send a price list and hope for the best. I guide people through a consultation where they understand the experience, what’s possible, and what to expect. By the time they book, they already feel confident.
That one change shifted my average sale from a few hundred dollars to around $1,000 to $4,000. Not because I became pushy, but because I became clearer. And that’s really what photography business coaching is about. Helping you simplify what’s not working and build a business that actually supports you.
Free advice can be helpful. Courses can be helpful too. But they’re not the same as photography business coaching. Free advice is general. It doesn’t know your business. Courses give you information, but you still have to figure out how to apply and implement it. Coaching is personalised. It helps you see what’s actually holding you back. I give you a roadmap and keep you accountable to put it into action.
Sometimes you don’t need more ideas. You need someone to say, this is the real issue. Let’s fix this first. And honestly, that can save you months or even years of trial and error.
If you’re looking for support with your messaging and marketing, that’s what we focus on inside my 12 Week 1:1 Coaching Program. The Sustainable Pet Photography Business.
I don’t think coaching is for everyone at every stage. But there are times when mentoring can make a real difference.
It’s often worth considering when:
• you’re getting enquiries, but they’re not turning into bookings
• your income feels inconsistent, even if your pricing looks fine
• you feel stuck trying to figure everything out on your own
• your marketing feels reactive instead of intentional
Because being busy isn’t the same as building a business that actually supports you. One of the biggest mistakes I see is waiting until things feel really hard before getting support. But often, the right support is what helps things feel clearer in the first place.
I’ve seen this in my own business too. A client once booked from a simple check in email. No promotion. Just a conversation. She later had to say goodbye to her cat and told me how grateful she was to have those photos.
That moment stayed with me. Because consistent marketing isn’t about being pushy. It’s about being present. And that’s something I help photographers build inside photography business coaching.
Not all coaching is the same. And that’s okay.
But if you’re looking for photography business coaching, here’s what I’d pay attention to. Someone who understands your niche or business model. Someone who can help you implement, not just give ideas. And someone whose values align with yours. Someone who will keep you accountable.
This matters more than people realise. If you want a calm, relationship driven business, you probably won’t enjoy being coached in a high pressure environment.
I also think lived experience matters. I didn’t build my business overnight. I built it while working full time, then went all in on photography in February 2022. I’ve worked through the messy middle.
That experience shapes how I coach.
Sustainability isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things consistently. That means having marketing that doesn’t disappear when you get busy. It means having offers that are profitable. It means attracting the right clients. And having systems you can repeat.
For example, passive marketing like your website and SEO builds visibility in the background. Active marketing like email, partnerships, and campaigns brings in bookings now. You need both.
I’ve seen how powerful simple systems can be. I once sent a short, two line email to my list. One past client replied, booked in, pre-purchased $3,000, and spent more at her session. Almost $5,000 from one simple email.
Not because it was clever. Because it was consistent. That’s what photography business coaching helps you build. Systems that work without constant guessing.
This part matters more than most people expect. Because it’s not just about strategy. It’s about how you see your work.
Mac was my heart dog. When he passed away, I realised just how important those photos were. I’d had experiences with photographers that didn’t quite capture who he was, and that stayed with me. That’s a big part of why I do what I do now.
And it’s why I care so much about helping photographers build businesses that reflect the value of what they create. When you truly understand the impact of your work, it becomes easier to talk about it. To price it. To stand behind it.
If you want a bit more guidance, my Consistent Bookings Program is designed to help you bring in more of the clients you actually want to work with.
Not everyone needs coaching right now.
But if you’re tired of guessing, tired of inconsistent bookings, and tired of trying to piece everything together on your own, photography business coaching might be the next step.
You don’t have to keep doing this the hard way.
If this resonated with you, there are a few ways I can help.
You can start with my free Marketing Reset Webinar, where I walk through why photographers struggle with consistent bookings and what to do instead. From there, I run a three-part Consistent Bookings Workshop where we build a practical strategy together. You can add your name to the waitlist to be notified when the next round is open for enrolment.
If you’re ready for more personalised support, my 1-on-1 photography business coaching program is designed to help you refine your messaging, improve your pricing, and build a marketing system that brings in consistent enquiries.
You can also book a no obligation 15 minute strategy call to see if it’s the right fit. And if you’d prefer to start by listening, you can tune into The Pet Photographers’ Journal Podcast.
However you move forward, the goal is simple. To build a photography business that consistently attracts the right clients and supports the life you actually want to live.
Let’s build that together!
